Mitchell Byrne took the top prize in the Tallaght A.C. Annual 5K Road race on Patrick’s Day.
The race which attracted more than six hundred entries was sponsored by Tallaght & District Credit Union and helped raise much needed funds for the charity partner Endometriosis Association of Ireland.
The Rathfarnham/WSAF A.C. athlete set the standard from the start and maintained his lead over the rest of the field of competitors to claim back-to-back victories with a time of 15:03, with Aaron Hanlon, Drogheda & District A.C. taking the second prize in 15:13, ahead of David Scanlon (15:23) taking 3rd place for Rathfarnham/WSAF A.C.
The top prize in the women’s category also went the way of Rathfarnham/WSAF A.C after Carla Sweeney crossed the line in 16:54 with Aine Cotter of Northeast Runners A.C. taking second (17:07), and Lucy Barrett, Raheny Shamrock A.C. in 3rd (17:43).
Fergus Collis (Blackrock A.C.) won the o/40 category with a time of 16:54, while Aoife O’Leary Sportsworld A.C. won the women’s O/40 category in a time of 18:40.
The O/45 categories went the way of Kevin Morros Croghan A.C. and Emma Hand with times of 16:41 and 19:45 respectively, while Des Tremble (Donore Harriers A.C.) recorded a time of 17:31 when winning the O/50 prize and Emma McNamara (Dublin City Harriers took top prize in the women’s category with a time of 20:46.
Colm Murray (Rathfarnham/WSAF A.C) finished in 18:24 to take the O/55 prize and Sharon Tighe (Tallaght A.C.) took the women’s O/55 category in 21:31.
Aidan McGrath won the O/60 prize in 20:09, while Fiona Byrne (Civil Service A.C.) taking the prize in the women’s category with a time of 22:18, and the O/65 categories were won by Gerry Woods Tallaght A.C. (22:00), and Breda Woods, Tallaght A.C. (30:16).
Kevin O’Flynn crossed the line in 23:39 in the O/70 category while Eileen O’Brien (Lucan Harriers A.C.) won the women’s O/70 category with a time of 26:58.
Andrea Rondina (15:35), Alex Ainsworth (16:30, Patrick Conlon (17.04), and Joseph McDermott (17:43) combined to take the men’s team prize for Crusaders A.C., while Aoife O’Leary (18:40), Caoimhe Daniels (18:44), Maria Jones (18:44), and Crona Clohisey (20:06) combined to take the team prize for Sportsworld A.C.
