Tallaght Athletics club sprinters were in top form at the National Senior Indoor Championships in Abbotstown last weekend.
Indeed, it was truly a momentous occasion for the clubs sprinting group with all four athletes, Israel Olatunde (6.85), Sean Aigboboh (6.90), Joseph Ojewumi (6.91), and Simon Essuman (7.02 P.B.) all qualifying through the 60m heats to the semi-finals on Sunday morning, with Israel Olatunde, Sean Agiboboh and Joseph Ojewumi making the final.
And the trio then lined up for what turned out to be a thrilling final with Israel Olatunde retaining his title and topping the podium with a winning time of 6.71 and Sean Aigboboh taking bronze with a new personal best time of 6.77, and Joseph Ojewumi finishing shy of the podium in 4th (6.80).
Carlotta Malaga Moran recorded a time of 8.09 in her heat of the 60m and she recorded a new personal best time of 26.00 in the heats of the 200m the previous day with Godwin Mathias recording a new personal best time of 50.59 to qualify for the semi-finals of the 400m and Cormac Dixon, in his first Senior Championships was another who qualified from the 1500m heats on Saturday and in the final on Sunday he recorded a new personal best time of 3:52.27 when crossing the line in 6th place.
The club will be fielding eight juvenile relay teams at the Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championships in Abbotstown this Saturday and Sunday, where they will be aiming to make the podium and qualify for the National Indoor Championships.
